Custom Badge Buddy Studio: Pet Photo, Name & Logo

Your name. Your shift. Nurses and teachers both wear a badge that says a name — usually the short one people actually use. Custom Studio lets you put that name, a pet photo, and a unit or class mark you have rights to use onto an acrylic badge buddy, then preview before you pay.

Quick answer: Open Custom Studio, pick a vertical or horizontal acrylic badge buddy plate, then add up to one included name line and one included photo or icon before optional add-ons. Upload your own pet photo (PNG, JPEG, or WebP up to 12 MB), type the name you actually go by, and drop a unit or class logo you have rights to use — preview on the plate, fix soft uploads, then pay. Custom spelling entered at checkout is non-refundable. Follow your facility or school ID rules before you wear anything decorative.

Not a dress-code or school-policy guarantee. Hospitals, clinics, agencies, and schools each set their own ID visibility, dangling-length, color, and branding rules. This walkthrough is product how-to only. If your unit or classroom bans decorative reels, acrylic buddies, or non-approved clips, follow policy — not this article. We do not claim YWDIY products will pass any specific audit.

What you need

Dress code / school policy first

Before you design anything, check what the place actually allows. Hospitals, clinics, and agencies set visibility and dangling-length rules for a reason — scanners, snag safety, and staff identification audits. A decorative acrylic plate does not replace your issued photo ID. Your barcode, chip, and legal name must stay visible and scannable at all times. The buddy hangs beside or behind it, not over it.

Teachers should check classroom and district lanyard rules the same way nurses check unit policy. Some schools restrict decorative reels or dangling accessories near students; others are fine with small acrylic badges if they stay short and don’t cover identification. When in doubt, ask your manager or administrator before you wear it.

This is workplace and classroom common sense, not legal or occupational-health advice. We build products; we don’t audit your facility.

What you can put on the plate

The studio handles both paths in one interface. The themes that work for nurses and teachers overlap almost exactly — personal, not clinical.

Pet photo. Upload a photo of your dog, cat, bird, or whatever waits at home. The image sits on the plate behind or beside the name text, depending on your layout. Nurses often pair a pet photo with a unit name; teachers pair it with a class grade or subject.

The name you go by. Not the legal name on payroll — the one people actually say out loud. Nurses: the nickname the charge nurse uses. Teachers: the name your class actually uses when they call you over. Spelling is entered exactly at checkout; the studio does not autocorrect nicknames.

Unit logo OR class / grade mark. Use only marks you have rights to. That means your clinic’s internal logo if published for staff use, your school’s crest if licensed, or a simple grade-level mark you designed yourself. Do not upload hospital trademarks, brand logos, or any character or sports-team knockoff.

Drop the pet photo, type the name you go by, preview the plate — then pay only when it looks right. Open Custom Studio when you’re ready. Confirm your facility or school still allows decorative reels and dangling accessories before you wear anything.

  1. Watch the soft-upload warning. If print DPI falls below the studio minimum of 150 DPI, the UI warns the print will look soft — scale smaller or upload a larger file before you pay. Soft uploads are flagged before checkout.

  1. Pick optional finishes. Clear acrylic is included ($0). Shaker glitter fill is +$3.00. Holographic flake is +$3.50. Liquid sand float is +$4.50.

Decorative reels and acrylic buddies are not dress-code or classroom passes. Confirm your unit or school allows dangling accessories before you wear anything.

Nurse path vs teacher path

Same studio — pick the icon pack and text that match your shift.

Nurse path. Use the Medical icon pack (heart, stethoscope, and related symbols) or upload a pet photo. Print the nickname the team uses. If you add a unit logo, confirm you have rights to wear it. Stack the reel and plate so barcode and chip stay scannable — never over the photo side of your ID. For scrub stacking tips, see Elevate Plain Scrubs: Badge Reel & Charm Guide.

Teacher path. Use the Teacher icon pack — apple, pencil, book, grad cap, star — or upload a pet. Print the name your class actually uses, plus a class or grade mark you designed. A beaded lanyard (+$8.00) helps when schools restrict dangling reels. Keep the plate short enough that it never covers school-issued identification.

Either way: the name you go by, in a format you actually want to wear.
